Somers Studio and Gallery is filled with recent work.  Fred has had an outstanding year, beginning with the capstone exhibition of works created with assistance from the SE Minnesota arts Council. He has also received awards from both the International Association of Pastel Societies and The Artists' Magazine.  Some of these and even more new paintings will be available during the Open House.  We hope you will be able to join us.

Visit our booth at the Riverfront Arts Festival.  Saturday and Sunday September 6 - 7 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.  We look forward to this opportunity to seeing many of you.  There are also plenty of opportunities to see the reinactment of Northfield's famous Defeat of Jesse James.  This is one of Minnesota's premier community festivals.

Artists were challenged to create 2-D and 3-D works with the elephant as a theme.  The juried exhibition will continue through the Republican National Convention in St. Paul, MN in September.

"Now and Again" will be on view.  Chosen from over 300 entries, this pastel focuses on the treasure to be found on the forest floor.

"Conversations on Aerial Perspective" In a four page article which discusses my varied explorations of perspective in the landscape

Many of Fred's paintings in this exhibit were inspired by landscape in and near the arboretum.  He has for many years been exploring and painting images from the watershed that flows into the Minnesota and Mississippi rivers.

Artists are invited to join Fred in painting in the arboretum between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Spring wild flowers will be in bloom and the Artoretum will recommend places to paint.

This is a special exhibition of work Fred has completed in recent months as he has explored the use of gold leaf in his pastel and oil paintings.  The project was partially supported by a grant from SEMAC and we thank them.  Visit northfieldartsguild.org for gallery hours.
